Fourth-generation Montana ranching with a better way to bring beef home.

Oswald Farms is a fourth-generation family farm and ranch based just outside of Rockvale, Montana β€” basically a flashing light at the split in the highway. The farm has changed with each generation, but the heart of the work has remained the same: care for the land, raise quality cattle, and keep the family operation moving forward.
In 1946, Orlyn and Mavis Oswald purchased the farm in Carbon County, where the headquarters remain today. After researching the area, Orlyn chose the current location hoping the mountain would split large storms before they hit the farm. It was here they built one of the nation’s largest Registered Shorthorn herds of the time, with a barn sign that proudly read, β€œHeadquarters for Hindquarters.”

    New to Bulk Beef?

We can walk you through cuts, processing, and freezer planning.

Oswald Farms sells beef as individual cuts, custom packages, and in quarters, halves, and wholes. If you are new to buying local beef, the team can help you understand the process, choose cuts, and plan freezer space.

For quarters, halves, and whole beef, pricing varies with the hot hanging weight. Processing fees are also based on that weight, so final pricing can only be determined once the hanging weights are available.

Stillwater Packing contacts customers to review cuts and ensure the beef is delivered as desired β€” including burger package size, roast size, steak thickness, and preferred cuts.

Quarter β€” Ideal for smaller households or first-time bulk-beef buyers.

Half β€” A strong freezer-stocking option for families who cook beef often.

Whole β€” Ideal for larger families, shared orders, or serious freezer planning.
